Monday, 08 October, 2001 - Kiwi Open Shanghai
Miss Dokic was going to participate this week in the Kiwi Open 2001. She had been seeded 2nd in the singles and drawn to meet Adriana Serra-Zanetti of Italy in the 1st round. However, the official website announced today that she had been forced to withdraw from the tournament, due to a left ankle strain incurred in her final match in Moscow. Her comments were as follows: "I'm disappointed I can't come back to Shanghai, because I had a great time there last year. But after straining my ankle early in the Moscow final I need to rest it for the upcoming tournaments. I'm really happy with the way I'm playing right now, so it's a shame I can't make it to Shanghai this year." The Kiwi Open 2001, Tier4 hard court tournament, began today at the Xian Xia Tennis Center in Shanghai, China.
She ranked up into the top 10 in the WTA Tour singles ranking today for the first time in her professional career. She is still holding her 14th place in the doubles ranking.
