Wednesday, 31 July, 2002 - Acura Classic
Miss Dokic advanced to the 3rd round of the Acura Classic on Tuesday with a 6-2 7-5 win over Gala Leon Garcia, despite being troubled with holding her serves in the tightly contested 2nd set.

She will next meet 9th seed Anastasia Myskina of Russia, who also reached the 3rd round by defeating Francesca Schiavone, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Court-11 on Tuesday. They are scheduled to play each other at the 2nd match of Wednesday's evening session on the Stadium Court. The 1st match between Venus Williams and Janette Husarova is due to start at 7:00 p.m. (local time).

Unfortunately Miss Dokic and partner Kim Clijsters suffered a shock 1st round exit from the doubles competition when they were defeated by 4th seeded pair of Elena Dementieva and Janette Husarova, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 4-6 later Tuesday.

Tuesday, 30 July, 2002 - Acura Classic, Brasil Open
Miss Dokic is scheduled to play in both the singles and doubles on Tuesday. She will meet unseeded Gala Leon Garcia, a 6-3 6-2 winner over Australia's Fed Cup heroine Alicia Molik, at the 2nd match on the Stadium Court.

Miss Dokic seems to participate in the 2002 Brasil Open in September. The Tier2 event, organized by Octagon, will be held at the next week of the U.S.Open in Bahia, Brazil. She reached the singles final and lost to Monica Seles at the first Brasil Open last year. She has been elected by the Brazilian media as the event "muse", the Tenisbrasil website announced on 26th July.

Monday, 29 July, 2002 - Acura Classic, WTA Rankings
The doubles main draw for the 2002 Acura Classic has been announced. Miss Dokic will team up with Kim Clijsters for the first time since last year's Sparkassen Cup in Leipzig. They were drawn to meet 4th seeded pair of Elena Dementieva and Janette Husarova in the 1st round.
The WTA Tour official website released new ranking tables today. Miss Dokic reached a career high ranking of No.5 in the singles and also moved up to No.27 in the doubles ranking.

In Stanford, top seed Venus Williams won her 5th title of the season by defeating 4th seed and defending champion Kim Clijsters, 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday's final of the Bank of the West Classic, while 16-year-old Russian qualifier Dinara Safina has won her first Tour title in Sopot when 6th seeded Slovakian Henrieta Nagyova retired from Saturday's final of the Idea Prokom Polish Open, Tier3 clay-court event, at 6-3 4-0 because of an ankle injury.

Saturday, 27 July, 2002 (2) - Acura Classic
Miss Dokic will take part in the 2002 Acura Tennis Classic next week. The tier2 hard-court tournament will be held from 29th July to 4th August at the La Costa Resort and Spa tennis courts in Carlsbad, 30 minutes north of San Diego, California, USA. The singles main draw has been already announced. Miss Dokic was seeded 6th in the 4th quarter of the draw. 16 seeds in a 48 field received 1st round byes. She will play either Gala Leon Garcia of Spain or Alicia Molik of Australia in the 2nd round. She was drawn to meet 9th seed Anastasia Myskina of Russia in the 3rd round and probably will face 2nd seed Jennifer Capriati or 13th seed Meghann Shaughnessy in the quarter-finals. Top seed is defending champion Venus Williams. The official website announced that Corina Morariu will return to the WTA Tour next week to play in the doubles competition after making a complete recovery from leukemia.

Saturday, 27 July, 2002 (1) - Bank of the West Classic
Miss Dokic suffered 7th loss in a row, falling to 2nd seed Lindsay Davenport, 2-6, 2-6 in 48 minutes at the opening quarter-final match at the Taube Family Tennis Center Friday afternoon. She said in her post-match interview: "I had the same problems against her I had before... I didn't see a difference. It seems like she's hitting the ball better. I'm very surprised at the way she's playing. I didn't think she'd be playing that well coming back," the Associated Press reported.

Following her compatriot, Jelena Jankovic's run came to a halt with a 5-7, 3-6 loss to defending champion and 4th seed Kim Clijsters, who will next face Lindsay Davenport on Saturday in a rematch of their last year's final.

Friday, 26 July, 2002 - Bank of the West Classic
Photo quoted from JuniorTennis.com. Miss Dokic and partner Tamarine Tanasugarn lost to Janette Husarova and Conchita Martinez, 2-6, 3-6 in the quarter-finals of the Bank of the West Classic Thursday afternoon.
All singles quarter-final matches are scheduled to be played on the Stadium Court-1 on Friday. Miss Dokic is set to meet 2nd seed Lindsay Davenport at the opening match, which starts at 12:00 noon (local time). Defending champion and 4th seed Kim Clijsters will play at the 2nd match against 17-year-old wildcard Jelena Jankovic, who upset 7th seed Daja Bedanova, 7-6 (8), 2-6, 6-3 in the 2nd round on Thursday night. Jelena Jankovic (right) has been named Yugoslavia's Junior Sportswoman of the Year in 2001.

Thursday, 25 July, 2002 - Bank of the West Classic
Miss Dokic progressed to the quarter-finals of the Bank of the West Classic with fighting her way back after losing the opening set to defeat wildcard Conchita Martinez, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 in the 2nd round Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, she tied her head-to-head record against former Wimbledon champion at 5-5.

For a semi-final berth, she will next face a tough opponent, 2nd seed Lindsay Davenport, who ousted qualifier Anne Kremer in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 on Wednesday evening. Former world No.1 Lindsay Davenport had not played in the Tour since she injured her knee in Munich last November.

Another Yugoslav player Jelena Jankovic easily advanced to the 2nd round with a 6-1 6-1 win over local lucky loser Sarah Taylor at the opening match on the Stadium Court-2 Wednesday. She will next meet 7th seed Daja Bedanova at Thursday's evening session on the same court.

Wednesday, 24 July, 2002 - Bank of the West Classic
Miss Dokic and partner Tamarine Tanasugarn defeated 4th seeded pair of Janet Lee and Wynne Prakusya on Tuesday night, 7-6 (3), 6-3 to progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face unseeded but tough pair of Janette Husarova and Conchita Martinez.
Before meeting in the doubles competition, 5th seeded Miss Dokic will face Conchita Martinez, a wildcard entrant, in the 2nd round of singles. They are scheduled to play in the 2nd match on the Stadium Court-1 Wednesday afternoon (not before 1:30 p.m. - local time). In the evening session on the same court, 2nd seed Lindsay Davenport will meet qualifier Anne Kremer of Luxembourg. Another qualifier and Stanford alumnus Marissa Irvin has upset 6th seeded Justine Henin, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in the 1st round on Tuesday. Justine Henin reportedly suffered a hand injury during the final set.

Tuesday, 23 July, 2002 - Bank of the West Classic
Miss Dokic made a good start in her first appearance in the Bank of the West Classic tournament in Stanford. She moved into the 2nd round with a 6-3 7-5 win over Amy Frazier on Monday evening. She will next meet former doubles partner Conchita Martinez, who also advanced by defeating another wildcard entrant Laura Granville last night, 6-3, 6-3.

Monday, 22 July, 2002 - Bank of the West Classic, WTA Rankings
Miss Dokic is scheduled to play her opening round match with Amy Frazier at Monday's evening session, which starts at 7:30 p.m. (local time) on the Stadium Court-1 in Stanford. Laura Granville and Conchita Martinez will also play each other on the Stadium Court-2 this evening.
The doubles main draw was announced today. Miss Dokic seems to return to doubles action this week. She will team up with new partner Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand. The pair was drawn to play against 4th seeded pair of Janet Lee and Wynne Prakusya in the 1st round.

According to the Tennis Australia official website, Australia remains in the 16-nation World Group for next year's competition by defeating the Netherlands, 3-2 at the Fed Cup World Group Qualifying Play-off, which was held this weekend on indoor hard-court at the Win Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, NSW, Australia. Australia's No.1 player Nicole Pratt was forced to withdraw from this weekend's tie due to a left foot injury.

Saturday, 20 July, 2002 - Bank of the West Classic
The singles main draw for the 2002 Bank of the West Tennis Classic has been announced. Miss Dokic was seeded 5th in the bottom half of the draw. Top 4 seeds - Venus Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Monica Seles and defending champion Kim Clijsters - in a 28 field received byes into the 2nd round. She will play her opening round match against Amy Frazier of the United States on Monday or Tuesday. She was drawn to meet wildcard Conchita Martinez of Spain in the 2nd round and probably will face 2nd seed Lindsay Davenport of the United States in the quarter-finals. Lindsay Davenport, who had surgery in January to repair cartilage in her right knee, will return to the Tour next week. There is another player from Yugoslavia. Jelena Jankovic, the 17-year-old rising star, was given a wildcard to enter the main draw.

The WTA Tour official website released new ranking tables today. Miss Dokic moved up to No.6 in the singles ranking with replacing last year's Wimbledon finalist Justine Henin, but lost 4 ranking spots to No.29 in the doubles. Serena Williams not only captured her second straight Grand Slam but also became the No.1 player in the world for the first time in her career, taking the top spot from her elder sister Venus, by reaching the final last week in Wimbledon. The sisters won the ladies' doubles title yesterday after posting a straight sets win over 2nd seeded pair of Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez, 6-2, 7-5.

Sunday, 07 July, 2002 - Wimbledon, Bank of the West Classic
Serena Williams, the second seed, won her first Wimbledon title on Saturday by defeating her elder sister Venus, top seed and defending champion, 7-6 (4), 6-3 in their third meeting in a Grand Slam final. The sisters also booked their spot in the ladies' doubles final, where they will meet 2nd seeded pair of Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez today.
Miss Dokic seems to have a rest for 2 weeks before the North American hard-court season starts. She has been committed to play in the 2002 Bank of the West Classic, one of major tune-up tournaments for the U.S. Open. The Tier2 hard-court event will be held from 22nd to 28th July at Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the Stanford University campus in Stanford, California. The defending champion is Kim Clijsters, who defeated Lindsay Davenport at last year's singles final.

The Toray Pan Pacific Tennis 2003 official website today announced the details for its 20th anniversary tournament. The tier1 indoor carpet-court event will be held next January in Tokyo, Japan. Miss Dokic made her debut appearance as the 2nd seeded player at the tournament this year. She lost to Anne Kremer in the 2nd round after receiving a 1st-round bye, but reached the semi-finals in the doubles competition with partner Iroda Tulyaganova.

Wimbledon's second week began with rain, which caused the start of play to be delayed on Monday. Miss Dokic unfortunately suffered a shock defeat in a rain-interrupted 4th round, losing to 11th seed Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets, 4-6, 5-7 for the 3rd time in their three WTA career meetings on different kinds of surfaces except hard-court.
