Her final Grand Slam of the season was over. Miss Dokic and new partner Eleni Daniilidou had been scheduled to play against 12th seeded team of Amanda Coetzer and Lori McNeil at the 3rd match on the Court-9 on Friday. But they withdrew from the women's doubles competition and have been replaced by Amanda Augustus and Jennifer Embry in the draw. She seems to have lost her target to play tennis, besides having several off-court problems. Of course, I hope it is not true, but...our princess often throws her servants into confusion.
Wednesday, 28 August, 2002 - U.S. Open
Miss Dokic suffered a shock 2nd round exit in the final Grand Slam tournament of the season in New York. She was upset by Elena Bovina, 3-6, 2-6 in just one hour at Wednesday's opening match on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 2002 U.S. Open official website announced the mixed doubles draw today, in which Miss Dokic's name was not included.
Tuesday, 27 August, 2002 - U.S. Open
Miss Dokic cruised past Greta Arn, 6-2, 6-2 in 51 minutes in the opening round on Monday afternoon. She appeared on the Court-11 without any bandage around her right leg.
She will next meet Elena Bovina of Russia, who also advanced to the 2nd round with a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (6) win over Clarisa Fernandez of Argentina, 2002 Roland Garros semi-finalist, on Monday.
Monday, 26 August, 2002 - U.S. Open, TD Waterhouse Cup
The final Grand Slam event of the year will start on Monday at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York. Play will get underway at 11:00 a.m. (local time). Miss Dokic is scheduled to play for the opening day against Greta Arn at the 3rd match on the Court-11. Her physical condition reportedly seems to be good enough to play.
Thailand's top ATP player Paradorn Srichapan captured his first career singles title on Sunday when he upset 7th seed Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina, 5-7 6-2 6-2 in the final of the TD Waterhouse Cup in Long Island. He became the first Asian player to win an ATP singles title since Leander Paes of India in 1998 at Newport.
Sunday, 25 August, 2002 - Pilot Pen Tennis, WTA Rankings
Top seed Venus Williams won her 4th straight title (1999-2002) of the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament by defeating 2nd seeded compatriot Lindsay Davenport, 7-5, 6-0 in Saturday's final in New Haven.
The WTA Tour official website released the next week's ranking tables today. Miss Dokic remains at a career high ranking of No.4 in the singles and lost 3 places to No.21 in the doubles ranking.

According to the WTA Tour official website, Miss Dokic withdrew from the Pilot Pen Tennis just before her 2nd round match due to a right hamstring strain. She explained to the crowd in the Stadium that she was disappointed to be unable to play her Wednesday night match. She was replaced by Slovak lucky loser Martina Sucha, who lost to Patty Schnyder, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 in the last 2nd round match. Patty Schnyder will meet another Slovak player Daniela Hantuchova, 7th seed, in the quarter-finals on Thursday afternoon.
The 2002 U.S. Open official website announced the singles main draw. Miss Dokic was drawn to meet Greta Arn of Germany in the opening round for the first time since the 2000 Wimbledon Championships.

After receiving a bye in the opening round, 3rd seeded Miss Dokic is scheduled to play Patty Schnyder in the 2nd round of the 2002 Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven. Patty Schnyder advanced to the 2nd round with a 6-4 6-1 win over qualifier Marta Marrero on Tuesday. They will meet at the 2nd match of Wednesday's night session on the Stadium Court, following another 2nd round match between unseeded Iva Majoli and 7th seed Daniela Hantuchova. The 1st match is due to start at 7:00 p.m. (local time).

7th seeded Amelie Mauresmo upset 2nd seed Jennifer Capriati, 6-4, 6-1 in Sunday's final at the Rogers AT&T Cup in Montreal to win her 2nd title of the season. She won her previous title in the Dubai Duty Free Women's Open in February.
Miss Dokic seems to try to participate in the Pilot Pen Tennis this week despite a chronic right hamstring strain. According to the Ctnow.com, she has arrived in New Haven on Sunday. This tier2 tournament is a final hard-court tune-up for the U.S. Open, which gets underway in New York on 26th August. The singles opening round has already started on Sunday at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. The final will be played on Saturday. The top 4 seeds received opening-round byes in the 28-player field of the singles. No.1 seed is three-time defending champion Venus Williams and 2nd seed is Lindsay Davenport. Miss Dokic is seeded 3rd and Justine Henin 4th. Miss Dokic will meet either Spaniard qualifier Marta Marrero or Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the 2nd round on Wednesday. The quarter-final opponent probably will be 7th seed Daniela Hantuchova. While, her name is not included in the doubles main draw.

Sunday, 18 August, 2002 - Rogers AT&T Cup
Miss Dokic retired from Saturday's semi-final match against 2nd seed Jennifer Capriati in Montreal. She lost the 1st set in a tie-break and dropped 3 games in the 2nd set before calling for the trainer. She was unable to continue due to a recurring right hamstring strain. At last she retired at 0-4 after losing next service game. She said "Maybe if I just played singles, I would have been all right. But, you know, still -- maybe I made a mistake before the U.S. Open," in her press conference.
Jennifer Capriati will meet 7th seed Amelie Mauresmo in Sunday's singles final. Amelie Mauresmo defeated 8th seed Daniela Hantuchova, 6-2, 7-6 (3) in the 2nd semi-final match on Saturday.
She has been suffering from obstinate right foot injuries this season. I hope she will withdraw from next week's Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament to take a rest and prepare for the U.S. Open.
Saturday, 17 August, 2002 - Rogers AT&T Cup
3rd seeded Miss Dokic stopped 6th seeded Martina Hingis's comeback run in a Friday's quarter-final match at the Rogers AT&T Cup in Montreal. She won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Miss Dokic will now play for a final berth in Saturday's semi-finals against 2nd seed Jennifer Capriati, who also advanced with a 4-6 6-0 6-2 win over 5th seed Justine Henin Friday afternoon. The rematch of their quarter-final in San Diego early this month is due to start at 1:00 p.m. (local time). The other semi-final match will be played between 7th seed Amelie Mauresmo and 8th seed Daniela Hantuchova.

Miss Dokic survived a tough 3 set battle against Alexandra Stevenson, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the 3rd Round of the Rogers AT&T Cup on Thursday.
She will now face 6th seed Martina Hingis in the quarter-finals in Friday's night session, starting at 7:00 P.M. (local time). Former world No.1 is playing in her first tournament since undergoing ankle surgery in May.

Miss Dokic and partner Kim Clijsters moved into the 2nd round by defeating Janet Lee and Wynne Prakusya, 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday and set up a tough meeting with top seeded pair of Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs at the 4th match on the Court-1 Wednesday afternoon. Before the doubles action on Wednesday, Miss Dokic successfully advanced to the 3rd round in the singles. She recorded a straight sets victory over Martina Sucha, Slovak Fed Cup debutant in July, 6-3, 6-4 at the opening match on the Centre Court.
She will next meet the winner of a 2nd round match between Alexandra Stevenson and Tamarine Tanasugarn. They are scheduled to play in Wednesday's evening session on the Court-1 at 7:00 p.m. (local time).

The 2002 Rogers AT&T Cup has started on Monday. Miss Dokic and partner Kim Clijsters won the doubles title with a 6-3 6-3 victory over 2nd seeded pair of Daniela Hantuchova and Ai Sugiyama in Sunday's final of the JP Morgan Chase Open in Manhattan Beach. It was the third WTA Tour doubles title for each of them. In the singles final, 12th seed Chanda Rubin upset 3rd seed and defending champion Lindsay Davenport, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to win her second title of the year.

I've had a lot of matches and couldn't even give 10 percent out there mentally and physically... I couldn't move and mentally I couldn't think the points through." The singles final will be played on Sunday between Chanda Rubin and defending champion Lindsay Davenport, who has ended Ai Sugiyama's ran, 6-3, 6-4 in Saturday's day session. She ousted Rita Grande in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 Friday morning and now set up a meeting with American 12th seed Chanda Rubin, who upset top seed Serena Williams, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in the 2nd quarter-final match on Friday. They will meet in Saturday's evening session on the Stadium Court at 5:00 p.m. (local time).
In the doubles quarter-finals, Miss Dokic and partner Kim Clijsters upset top seeded pair of Cara Black and Elena Likhovtseva, 6-4, 6-1. They will next play against Corina Morariu and Kimberly Po-Messerli after suitable rest for Miss Dokic on Saturday night.

Miss Dokic reached her 5th singles final of the season after she survived a tough 3 set battle against Anna Kournikova in the semi-finals of the Acura Tennis Classic on Saturday. She lost the 1st-set tiebreaker, but saved 2 match points before fighting back to win the 2nd set in another tiebreak and finally finished the 3rd set with a bagel. She won 6-7 (6), 7-6 (2), 6-0.
She will play for her 6th Tour title on Sunday against top seed and defending champion Venus Williams, who easily ousted 3rd seed Lindsay Davenport, 6-2, 6-1 in the 2nd semi-final on Saturday night. The singles title match is due to start at 12:30 p.m. (local time).

Miss Dokic booked a semi-final place with a 2-6 6-2 6-4 win over 2nd seed Jennifer Capriati in the quarter-finals of the Acura Classic on Friday night. It is her first win over world No.3 in 5 career meetings and may be one of her best matches since last February, when she defeated Monica Seles in the semi-finals of the Open Gaz de France in Paris. She said in her post-match interview: "I've beaten Martina and Venus, but I think Jennifer was always the one for me to beat... I can say it the biggest win of my career right now because she's playing well. I am really happy to have beaten her," the tournament official website reported.
She is scheduled to play at the first match of Saturday's semi-finals on Stadium Court, which is due to start at 12:30 p.m. (local time). Her semi-final opponent is unseeded Anna Kournikova, who reached last 4 by upsetting 12th seed Anna Smashnova, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Friday morning.
