Miss Dokic lost in the 2nd-round of the 2003 U.S. Open on Thursday. She was defeated by Mary Pierce, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5) at the opening match in the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Miss Dokic survived a tough 2nd set in a tie-break after easily dropping the 1st set and led 5-1 in the final set, but the two time Grand Slam champion was too consistent, coming back 6-6, and finally finished the seesaw match during another tie-break.
