Thursday, 28 August, 2003 - U.S. Open
Miss Dokic lost in the 2nd-round of the 2003 U.S. Open on Thursday. She was defeated by Mary Pierce, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5) at the opening match in the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Miss Dokic survived a tough 2nd set in a tie-break after easily dropping the 1st set and led 5-1 in the final set, but the two time Grand Slam champion was too consistent, coming back 6-6, and finally finished the seesaw match during another tie-break.

Unconfirmed information. Although I had heard previously that she was going to change her racquet from "i.X6 MP" to HEAD's new "Liquidmetal" series, she seems to use the same model as Gustavo Kuerten's current racquet "i.prestige MP" at the 2003 U.S. Open.

Wednesday, 27 August, 2003 - U.S. Open
The 2003 U.S. Open official website announced the women's doubles draw and the mixed doubles draw on Tuesday. Miss Dokic will pair up again with Corina Morariu for the women's doubles competition. Their 1st-round opponents are top seeded team of Kim Clijsters and Ai Sugiyama, who are the winners of Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2003. To my surprise, Miss Dokic will also participate in the mixed doubles competition for the first time since the 2001 U.S. Open. Her partner is Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia-Montenegro. They will team up for a 1st-round match against Nana Miyagi of Japan and Cyril Suk of Czech Republic. Both doubles events are beginning on Wednesday.

The 3rd seeded Jennifer Capriati won her first singles title since the 2002 Australian Open but not in the prettiest way as she defeated top seed Lindsay Davenport, 6-2, 4-0 when her fellow opponent retired suffering from a left foot injury in Saturday's final of the 2003 Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven. Jennifer Capriati reached the final when 2nd seed Amelie Mauresmo retired in the 2nd set, 6-3, 3-1 due to an upset stomach in the semi-final on Friday evening, while Lindsay Davenport advanced with a 6-4 6-2 win over unseeded Elena Dementieva Friday afternoon.
